Butter-Infused Biscuits

Butter-Infused Biscuits are a delightful and easy-to-make treat. They earn their name from the unique cooking method, where the biscuits “swim” in a pool of melted butter while baking. Here’s a simple recipe to prepare them:

Ingredients:

For the biscuits:

  • 2 cups (0.47 l) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup (0.47 l) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450 °F (ca. 232 °C). Place a 9×13-inch baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish in the oven while it’s preheating. This will ensure the dish is hot when you add the butter and biscuit dough.
  2. Prepare the Biscuit Dough: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Be careful not to over mix; the dough should be lumpy.
  4. Melt the Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl or on the stove top, melt the stick of butter until it’s completely liquid.
  5. Prepare the Biscuits: Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven (use oven mitts), and pour the melted butter into the dish. It should sizzle.
  6. Drop the Biscuit Dough: Using a spoon or an ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough into the hot butter. Space them out evenly.
  7. Bake: Return the dish to the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  8. Serve: Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. They are best served warm, straight from the dish. Enjoy!

These Butter Swim Biscuits make a fantastic addition to breakfast or brunch and pair wonderfully with honey, jam, or even savory gravy. Exercise caution when handling the hot baking dish, and use oven mitts or potholders to avoid burns.
