A classic, creamy Southern-style dessert with warm spices and a flaky crust
Ingredients
For the filling
- 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2–3 medium sweet potatoes)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup evaporated milk
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground ginger (optional)
- ¼ tsp salt
For the crust
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Prepare the sweet potatoes
Peel and cut sweet potatoes into chunks. Boil in water until very tender (about 15–20 minutes). Drain well and mash until smooth. Let cool slightly. - Make the filling
In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, evaporated milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger (if using), and salt.
Mix until smooth and creamy. - Fill the crust
Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust and smooth the top. - Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 50–60 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out mostly clean. - Cool
Let the pie cool completely before slicing so it sets properly.
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Vanilla ice cream
- A sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg
Warm, silky, and perfectly spiced — this Sweet Potato Pie is comfort in dessert form 😍
