Materials
- Crochet yarn in your chosen colors
- Crochet hook suitable for the yarn
- Tapestry needle
- Cream or ivory yarn for the star
- Small pearl or button for the center
Spiral Ornament
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Step 1 — Spiral
- Chain 40.
- Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 3 sc in every chain across.
- The piece will naturally curl into a spiral.
For a longer ornament, start with 50–60 chains.
Step 2 — Add the contrasting stripe
Attach a second color along one edge of the spiral.
Work sc evenly along the edge, following the spiral shape. Repeat with additional colors if desired.
Star
- Make a magic ring.
- Chain 2 and work 10 dc into the ring.
- Close with a slip stitch.
- For each point, work:
sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc - Repeat around to create 5 points.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Add a small crocheted flower or pearl to the center.
Assembly
- Sew the top of the spiral securely to the bottom of the star.
- Chain 20–25 stitches to create the hanging loop.
- Sew the loop to the top of the star.
- Gently shape and twist the spiral before hanging.
Color ideas: lavender and ivory, teal and ivory, pink and ivory, sage green and ivory, or red and white.
