Crochet Christmas Star Ornament Pattern

Materials

  • Worsted-weight yarn in cream, burgundy, forest green, and taupe
  • Metallic gold or silver yarn
  • Crochet hook 3.5–4 mm
  • Gold or silver jingle bells
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Small amount of stuffing, optional
  • Thin gold cord for hanging

Star Base

Make a magic ring.

Round 1:
Ch 3, work 10 dc into the ring. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3. Pull the ring closed.

Round 2:
Ch 3. Work 1 dc in the same stitch, then 2 dc in each stitch around. Sl st to join.

Round 3 – Create the 5 points:
Skip 2 stitches, work 7 dc into the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, sl st into the next stitch.

Repeat from * around until you have 5 star points. Fasten off.

Decorative Center

Using cream yarn, crochet a small floral motif in the center:

  • Attach cream yarn between two star points.
  • Work groups of 3 dc to create petal shapes.
  • Separate each petal with a small chain space.
  • Continue around until the center resembles a 5-petal snowflake/flower.

Add small green stitches between the cream petals to create the leaf details.

Burgundy Border

Attach burgundy yarn around the outer edge.

Work:

sc, hdc, dc, 3 dc in the point, dc, hdc, sc

Repeat this sequence around each of the 5 points.

This creates the defined pointed outline seen on the ornament.

Metallic Detail

With gold metallic yarn, add small surface stitches radiating from the center toward each point.

Use simple slip stitches, chain stitches, or embroidered straight stitches to create the delicate gold floral accents.

Backing

Make a second star using the same basic star pattern, preferably in cream.

Place the two stars together with wrong sides facing.

Join around the edge with burgundy, green, or metallic yarn using single crochet, leaving a small opening.

Add a tiny amount of stuffing if you want a slightly dimensional ornament.

Continue crocheting around to close.

Bell

Attach a small jingle bell to the center with strong yarn.

For the lower point, add another small bell using a short chain or yarn loop.

Hanging Cord

At the top point:

  • Attach gold cord.
  • Ch 25–30.
  • Sl st back into the top point.
  • Fasten securely.
  • Hide the ends inside the ornament.

Color Combinations

Traditional:
Cream + burgundy + forest green + gold
