Continue increasing gradually until reaching 24 stitches.

Work 2 rounds evenly.

Switch to white yarn and crochet 2 rounds of SC for the fluffy brim.

Attach the hat to Santa’s head.

Using red yarn:

Round 1: 6 SC in MR (6)

Add a white crochet trim around the lower edge, a black belt, and a small gold button.

Make two small red arms and two red legs. Sew them securely to the body.

Step 4: Make Santa’s Beard

Using white yarn, create several small scalloped pieces.

CH 5, work 4 SC back along the chain.

Repeat to make 5–7 small beard sections.

Attach them around the lower part of Santa’s face, leaving the nose visible.

Step 5: Crochet the Long Christmas Spiral

Using white yarn:

  • CH 85–100, depending on the desired length.
  • Work 3 DC into the third chain from the hook.
  • Continue working 3 DC into every chain across.
  • The fabric will naturally curl into a spiral.
  • Fasten off the white yarn.

Using red yarn:

  • Join red yarn along one long edge of the spiral.
  • Work 1 SC into each available stitch along that edge.
  • Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Gently shape the spiral with your hands to create evenly spaced curls.

Step 6: Assemble the Ornament

  • Sew Santa’s head onto the body.
  • Attach the finished spiral beneath Santa’s feet.
  • Secure the top of Santa’s hat to a wooden ring using red yarn.
  • Thread a gold hanging cord through the wooden ring.
  • Check that every connection is secure.
  • Hang the ornament and allow the spiral to twist naturally.

Final Result

A charming handmade Santa ornament featuring a red Christmas hat, fluffy white beard, tiny arms and legs, and a long red-and-white crochet spiral that hangs beautifully.

Crochet Tip: Use consistent yarn tension and a lightweight cotton yarn to help the spiral keep its shape. For the five matching ornaments shown in the image, repeat the pattern five times.
