Create a festive hanging decoration with a red-and-white spiral, a golden star, miniature Christmas characters, trees, snowflakes, and colorful baubles.
This is an original pattern inspired by your photo. The exact stitches and dimensions cannot be determined from the image, so the finished mobile will look similar rather than identical.
Skill level: Intermediate

Work the ornaments in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.
1. Red-and-white spiral
The spiral is made as a long curled strip. Adding extra stitches into the foundation chain creates the curl.
With red yarn and the 3.5 mm hook:
- Foundation: Ch 181.
- Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 2 sc in each chain across. You will have approximately 360 sts. Ch 1 and turn.
- Row 2: Sc in each stitch across. Fasten off.
Change colors along Row 1 and Row 2 to make the candy-cane sections:
- Work approximately 30–40 stitches in red, then 15–20 stitches in white.
- Repeat the color changes across the strip.
- For a more regular appearance, keep the color changes in roughly the same places on both rows.
Gently twist the strip into a spiral and let it hang. If it curls too tightly, stretch it gently; if it curls too loosely, give it an extra twist during assembly.
Tip: Make a small test strip first. If you want a thicker spiral like the photo, work a third row of sc, matching the existing colors.
2. Golden star topper
Make two identical stars with yellow yarn and the smaller hook.
- Round 1: Make 10 sc in an MR. Join with a sl st.
- Round 2: Ch 4. Starting in the second ch from the hook, sl st in the next ch, sc in the next ch, hdc in the next ch. Skip the next st on the circle and sl st in the following st. Repeat from * to * five times to make five points.
