Ingredients
For the Dough
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
For Frying
- Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)
For Filling & Coating
- Nutella (about ½–¾ cup, or as needed)
- Granulated sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
Add the warm milk and egg, then mix until a soft dough forms.
Add the softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5–6 minutes with a mixer) until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
First Rise
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Donuts
Punch down the dough to release air.
Roll it out on a floured surface to about ½-inch (1.25 cm) thickness.
Cut into rounds using a glass or cutter (about 3 inches wide).
Place on a floured tray, cover loosely, and let rest for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
Fry the Donuts
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully fry donuts in batches, about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Coat with Sugar
While still warm, roll each donut in granulated sugar until fully coated.
Let cool slightly before filling.
Fill with Nutella
Transfer Nutella to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip.
Poke a hole in the side of each donut and fill generously until slightly heavy.
Wipe excess filling if needed.
Tips for Perfect Donuts
- Milk should be warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- Do not overcrowd the pan while frying.
- For extra indulgence, dust with powdered sugar instead of rolling in sugar.
- Best enjoyed warm the same day.
Serving Idea
