Salisbury Steak with Gravy

Give Ingredients

For the steaks
1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon oil

For the gravy
1 medium onion, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth

Instructions

Step 1
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until well combined. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.

Step 2
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until nicely browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3
In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for about 5 minutes until soft and lightly golden. Sprinkle in the flour and stir continuously for 1 minute.

Step 4
Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook until the gravy thickens.

Step 5
Return the patties to the skillet. Spoon the gravy over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for 10 to 15 minutes until the patties are fully cooked and tender.

Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, green beans, and bread rolls for a complete comfort meal.

Tips
You can add mushrooms for extra flavor.
For creamier gravy, replace half of the broth with milk.
A splash of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce deepens the gravy flavor.
