Apple sauce Baked Pork Chops

The photo appears to show thick pork chops topped with applesauce. Here’s a recipe to recreate it.

Ingredients — serves 4

  • 4 thick-cut pork chops, about 1 inch thick
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey, optional
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat the pork chops dry. Rub with olive oil and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and thyme.
  3. Place in a baking dish. Mix the applesauce with the mustard and optional sugar or honey, then spoon over the chops.
  4. Dot with butter. Bake for 20–30 minutes, depending on thickness, until the center reaches 145°F (63°C) on a meat thermometer.
  5. Rest for 3 minutes before serving. Spoon the pan juices over the chops.

Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans.

For homemade applesauce: simmer 3 peeled, chopped apples with ¼ cup water for 15–20 minutes, until soft, then mash.
