Big Honey Garlic Chicken

Ingredients
Chicken
- 1.5–2 kg chicken (thighs, drumsticks, or breast)
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Honey Garlic Sauce
- ½ cup pure honey
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 6–8 cloves garlic (finely minced)
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger (optional but great)
- 2 tablespoons ketchup or chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons water
Garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped spring onions
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken
- Wash and pat the chicken dry.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Cook the chicken
- Heat oil in a large pan or pot on medium heat.
- Add chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove chicken and set aside.
- Make the honey garlic sauce
- In the same pan, lower the heat.
- Add garlic and ginger, sauté for 30–40 seconds until fragrant.
- Add honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and chili flakes.
- Stir well and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- Thicken the sauce
- Mix cornstarch with water.
- Pour into the sauce while stirring.
- Sauce will become glossy and thick.
- Combine
- Return chicken to the pan.
- Coat well with sauce.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Finish
- Taste and adjust salt or sweetness.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve with steamed rice
- Goes great with noodles or stir-fried vegetables
- Can also be baked at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes
