US crochet terms
ch = chain; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; inc = 2 sc in one stitch; dec = invisible decrease; BLO = back loops only.
Work heads and hats in continuous rounds. Turning chains do not count as stitches.
1. Shared curly spiral
Make one for each ornament using royal blue or navy.
- Chain 61.
- Row 1: Work 3 sc into the second chain from the hook and into every remaining chain. 180 sc.
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 hdc into each stitch. 180 hdc.
- Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 dc into each stitch. 180 dc.
- Fasten off, leaving a long sewing tail at the upper end.
Guide the strip into a consistent corkscrew with your fingers. This produces a narrower crochet curl than the broad, structured ribbons pictured.
For a longer ornament, begin with 76 chains; Row 1 will contain 225 sc, and subsequent rows retain that count.
White edging: Join white at one end of the outer edge. Sc in each stitch across. For a more decorative finish, repeat sl st in the next stitch, ch 3, sl st in the same stitch, sl st in the next 2 stitches. Finish with sl sts in any remaining stitches.

Scarf: With pale blue, ch 46. Hdc in the third chain from the hook and across. Fasten off, add fringe, and secure around the neck.

Stuff lightly. Make a separate base circle using head Rounds 1–5, then sew it to the cone.
For snowy tiers, make three white chains sized to fit around the cone at different heights. Work sl st, ch 3, sl st into each chain, then sew the trims around the tree. Add a star charm at the tip.
6. Assembly and decoration
- Sew the upper end of each spiral securely beneath its topper.
- Embroider snowflakes using three crossing straight stitches, with short diagonal branches at their tips.
- Add optional silver beads with strong sewing thread.
- Attach one or two bells to the bottom.
- Make a hanging loop with ch 25, then sew both ends firmly to the topper.
For the central silver strand pictured, thread beads onto strong cord and anchor it beneath the topper. Let it hang through the center of the spiral without pulling the crochet out of shape.
These are decorative ornaments. Keep beads, bells, and hanging cords away from small children and pets.
