MATERIALS

Red cotton yarn
Dark green cotton yarn
Small amount of brown or gold yarn
2.5–3.0 mm crochet hook
Small beads or bells
Gold-colored hanging cord
Tapestry needle
Fiberfill for small round ornaments

  1. CROCHET SPIRAL

The decoration is made from a long crocheted spiral strip.

With white yarn:

Chain approximately 12 stitches.

Row 1:
Work 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook.
Continue with single crochet across the chain.

Row 2:
Chain 1 and turn.
Work 1 single crochet in each stitch across.

Continue working rows of single crochet until you have a long narrow strip.

To create the spiral shape, gradually increase the width along one side of the strip by working 2–3 stitches into selected stitches. Continue for several rows until the strip naturally curves.

Make a second long strip in red yarn using the same method.

Place the red strip underneath the white strip and secure them together with small stitches.

Shape the finished piece into a long Christmas-tree spiral. Pin or lightly sew the spiral at several points so it keeps its shape.

  1. DECORATIVE EDGE

Using white yarn, crochet a small scalloped border along the outer edge.

Attach the yarn to the edge.

Chain 3.

Work 4 double crochet into the same stitch.

Skip 1–2 stitches and make 1 single crochet.

Repeat:

Chain 3 → 4 double crochet in the same space → skip stitches → single crochet.

Continue around the spiral to create the decorative white ruffled edge visible in the design.

  1. CROCHET SNOWFLAKES

Use white yarn.

Center:
Make a magic ring.

Round 1:
Chain 2 and work 12 double crochet into the ring.
Slip stitch to close.

Round 2:
Chain 3.

Work 1 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochet into the next stitch.

Repeat around the circle to create six sections.

For the snowflake points:

Chain 4–5.

Work small picots along the chain.

Return to the base with a slip stitch.

Repeat around all six points.

Finish with a slip stitch and weave in the end.

Make several snowflakes in different sizes.

  1. RED STARS

Use red yarn.

Make a magic ring.

Work 10–12 single crochet into the ring and close with a slip stitch.

For each point:

Chain 4.

Work 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet and 1 double crochet along the chain.

Slip stitch back into the next stitch of the center.

Repeat five times to create a five-pointed star.

Make several small stars.

  1. RED CHRISTMAS BALLS

Use red yarn.

Start with a magic ring.

Round 1:
6 single crochet into the ring.

Round 2:
Increase in every stitch — 12 stitches.

Round 3:
1 single crochet, increase. Repeat around.

Round 4:
1 single crochet in each stitch.

Round 5:
Decrease around until the opening becomes small.

Add a small amount of fiberfill.

Continue decreasing until completely closed.

Fasten off and attach a small gold loop at the top.

  1. HOLLY BERRIES

Use red yarn.

Make three small balls using the same technique as the Christmas balls, but much smaller.

Sew the berries together in groups of three.

Use dark green yarn to crochet small holly leaves.

For each leaf:

Chain 7.

Work slip stitches and single crochet along one side of the chain.

At the tip, make several stitches into the same stitch to create the point.

Continue down the other side.

Add small picots along the edge for a holly-leaf appearance.

Sew the leaves behind the red berries.

  1. HANGING ORNAMENTS

Cut several pieces of gold or red cord in different lengths.

Attach:

Snowflakes
Red stars
Red balls
Holly berry clusters
Small bells or beads

Space the ornaments evenly along the spiral.

Tie each ornament securely to the spiral so they hang freely.

  1. TOP LOOP

At the very top of the spiral, attach a strong red or gold hanging cord.

Make a large loop approximately 5–7 cm long.

Secure it firmly with several stitches.

  1. FINAL ASSEMBLY

Hang the decoration vertically.

Starting from the top, gently arrange the crochet strip into a loose spiral.

Adjust the distance between each turn so the decoration resembles a Christmas tree.

Position the snowflakes and ornaments alternately on both sides.

Place red stars and Christmas balls between the snowflakes.

Add holly berry clusters around the outer edge.

Finally, gently straighten the spiral and make sure all ornaments hang freely.

FINISHING

Weave in all loose yarn ends.

Check every hanging ornament and reinforce the attachment points.

Lightly steam or block the crochet pieces if necessary.

Do not use excessive heat because cotton yarn can lose its shape.

The finished decoration can be hung on a wall, window, Christmas tree, doorway, fireplace, or ceiling.

TIP

For a look closer to the pictured decoration, use white as the main spiral color, red as the accent color, and dark green only for the holly leaves. Keep the snowflakes predominantly white and use different hanging lengths to create the cascading Christmas-tree effect.
