Materials:
Cotton yarn in red, white, green, beige, brown and lime green, 2.5–3 mm crochet hook, fiberfill, safety eyes, yarn needle, beads/bells, and yarn for tassels.
Abbreviations: MR = magic ring, SC = single crochet, INC = increase, DEC = decrease, CH = chain, SL ST = slip stitch.
Head
- MR, 6 SC.
- INC around = 12.
- (SC, INC) ×6 = 18.
- (2 SC, INC) ×6 = 24.
- (3 SC, INC) ×6 = 30.
6–10. SC around. - Add safety eyes and embroider the mouth/nose.
- (3 SC, DEC) ×6 = 24.
- (2 SC, DEC) ×6 = 18. Stuff firmly.
- (SC, DEC) ×6 = 12.
- DEC around and close.
Santa / Elf Hat
- MR, 4 SC.
- SC around.
- Increase 2 stitches evenly every second round until the hat fits the head.
- Crochet 2–3 rounds straight.
- Finish with a white SC border.
- Add a small white pom-pom.
Spiral Body
CH 45–55.
Starting in the 2nd chain from hook, work 3 SC into every chain.
The strip will curl naturally into a spiral.
Attach it securely underneath the head.
Tassel
Cut 15–20 strands of yarn about 15 cm long. Fold in half, tie tightly at the top and trim evenly. Add 2–3 wooden or crochet beads above the tassel.
Character Ideas
Reindeer: brown head, beige muzzle, red nose, small ears and crocheted antlers.
Mrs. Claus: beige face, white hair, red Santa hat.
Grinch: green face, embroidered eyebrows and red Santa hat.
Christmas Elf: beige face, green hair and tall green hat.
Finish by sewing tiny bells, bows, snowflakes or mini gift decorations onto the spiral, then add a long hanging loop at the top.
