1. Red Gift Box Center

With red yarn, chain 22.

Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook and across. CH 1, turn.
Rows 2–21: SC in every stitch across. CH 1, turn.

Fasten off and weave in the end.

This creates the red square representing the present.

2. Cream Border

Join cream yarn in any corner.

Round 1: SC evenly around the entire red square. At each corner work SC, CH 2, SC.

Round 2: SC in every stitch around. In each corner work SC, CH 2, SC.

Round 3: Repeat Round 2.

Do not fasten off if you want to continue directly into the decorative border.

3. White Puff/Petal Border

The photograph shows a raised scalloped/petal-style white border.

At each selected section:

Puff stitch:
Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop. Repeat several times in the same stitch/space, then yarn over and pull through all loops. Secure with a CH 1.

Place the puff stitches evenly around the four sides, leaving the corners clearly defined.

Between puff stitches, work SC stitches to keep the border flat.

At each corner, work a small cluster of stitches so the square remains square.

4. Green Outer Border

Join dark green yarn in a corner space.

Round 1: SC around the entire square, placing SC, CH 2, SC in each corner.

Round 2: SC in every stitch around, with SC, CH 2, SC in each corner.

Round 3: Repeat Round 2.

Final Round: Work a neat SC round around the entire square. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

5. Gold Ribbon

Using gold/yellow yarn, surface-crochet a vertical line through the center of the red present.

Then surface-crochet a horizontal line across the center, creating the appearance of a wrapped gift.

Keep the tension even so the ribbon lies flat.

6. Crochet Bow

With gold yarn:

  1. Make a long chain of approximately 25–30 CH.
  2. Fold the chain into two loops.
  3. Secure the center tightly with yarn.
  4. Shape the loops into a bow.
  5. Stitch the bow securely onto the center of the present.
  6. Add two short chains underneath for the hanging ribbon tails.

7. Finishing

  • Carefully weave in every loose end.
  • Gently block the square into a perfect shape.
  • Make sure the four corners are sharp and even.
  • The finished design should resemble the photo: red present + gold ribbon and bow + white raised floral border + dark green outer frame.

The construction is consistent with common gift-box granny-square designs, where the present is made as a square and the ribbon is added afterward with surface stitches. (

Note: The photo includes a stitch chart, but some symbols are too small/ambiguous to determine every exact stitch count with certainty. So the pattern above is a written reconstruction matching the visible finished design, rather than a claim that it is the original chart pattern.
