US Terms
Materials: Worsted/DK yarn in cream, dark green, red, brown and mustard/gold; 3.5–4 mm crochet hook; 3 small gold beads/bells; optional metallic gold thread.
Abbreviations:
CH = chain, SC = single crochet, HDC = half double crochet, DC = double crochet, SL ST = slip stitch, ST = stitch, SP = space, MR = magic ring.
1. Cream Granny-Square Base
Round 1: MR, CH 3, work 2 DC, CH 2. 3 DC, CH 2 ×3. Join.
Round 2: SL ST to corner. In each corner work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC. CH 1 between groups.
Rounds 3–7: Continue granny-square style, working 3 DC in each CH-1 space and (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in every corner.
Make enough rounds for a square approximately 25–30 cm wide.
2. Gold Inner Border
Join metallic gold yarn around the cream center.
Work SC evenly around, placing 3 SC in each corner. Fasten off.
3. Green & Red Berry Border
Join dark green.
Round 1: SC around the square, working 3 SC in each corner.
Berry round:
Work 3–4 green SC, red bobble repeatedly around.
Red bobble: Join red yarn in next ST, CH 2, work 5 unfinished DC into the same ST, yarn over and pull through all loops. CH 1 to close. Continue with green.
Space the red bobbles evenly around all four sides.
4. Cream Outer Border
Join cream yarn.
Round 1: DC evenly around, with (2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC) in each corner.
Round 2: SC around.
Round 3: SC, skip 1 ST, 5 DC in next ST, skip 1 ST; repeat for a soft scalloped finish. Adjust spacing at corners.
🎄 Christmas Tree Appliqué
Make the tree separately with dark green yarn.
Bottom Tier
CH 18.
Row 1: DC in 4th CH from hook and across. Turn.
Row 2: CH 3, decrease 1 ST at each end. DC across.
Repeat decreasing at both ends until a triangular shape forms.
Middle Tier
CH 14 and repeat the same method.
Top Tier
CH 10 and repeat.
Sew the three triangles onto the square, overlapping them slightly to create the layered Christmas tree.
Cream Snow Edging
Along the lower edge of each green tier work:
SL ST, CH 3, SC in next ST repeatedly to form a small scalloped snowy trim.
Brown Trunk
With brown yarn:
CH 6.
Work 3–4 rows of SC.
Fasten off and sew beneath the bottom tree tier.
⭐ Star
With mustard/gold yarn:
MR, CH 3, SL ST in 2nd CH, SC in next CH, SL ST into MR ×5.
Pull MR closed and sew the five-point star to the top.
🎀 Mini Red Bows
Make 3 bows.
CH 4, work 3 DC, CH 3, SL ST into MR; repeat once for second side. Tighten center and wrap yarn several times around the middle.
Sew one bow to each tree tier.
Finishing
Sew 3 small gold beads or bells onto the tree. Weave in all ends and gently block the square flat.
Suggested finished size: about 28–32 cm / 11–12.5 in.
