Crochet Christmas Star Spiral Ornament Pattern

Skill level: Intermediate
US crochet terms
Materials: Cotton yarn in red, green, white, pink or blue, 2.5–3 mm crochet hook, yarn needle, small gold bead, small jingle bell, and hanging cord.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, inc = 2 stitches in one stitch.

  1. Star top: Start with a magic ring. R1: Ch 1, work 10 sc into the ring, join. R2: Ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next, dc in next, skip 1 stitch on the center ring, sl st into next stitch. Repeat 5 times to create five star points. Fasten off and block gently.
  2. White snowflake: With white yarn, make a magic ring. Ch 5, sl st back along the chain, sl st into the ring. Repeat 6 times. Add tiny ch-2 side branches to each arm if desired. Sew the snowflake securely to the center of the star.
  3. Crochet spiral: Ch about 55–65 depending on the desired length. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 3 dc in every chain across. The strip will naturally curl into a spiral. For a fuller spiral, use 4 dc in each chain. Fasten off, shape the curls evenly, and attach the top to the star with a gold bead between them.
  4. Bell base: With white yarn, make a magic ring. R1: 6 sc. R2: inc around = 12. R3: (sc, inc) around = 18. R4–6: sc around. R7: (2 sc, inc) around = 24. R8: sc around. Final edge: (sl st, ch 2, sl st in next stitch) around for a small decorative scallop.
  5. Holly decoration: Make two small green leaves: ch 7, then work sl st, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc down the chain; work the same stitches along the opposite side. Make three tiny berries using a magic ring with 6 sc, close tightly, and sew them to the front of the bell.
  6. Assembly: Sew the spiral to the top of the white bell. Attach a small gold jingle bell underneath. Add a strong crochet chain or cord above the star for hanging. Weave in all ends securely.

For a set like the picture, make three ornaments using Christmas red, emerald green, and snowy white spirals, while changing the star and berry colors for each piece.
