1. Crochet the Hanging Loop
- Using green yarn, chain 45–55 stitches.
- Slip stitch into the first chain to form a loop.
- Work single crochet stitches along both sides of the chain, if desired, to make the loop thicker.
- Fasten off and sew the ends securely together.
2. Crochet the Flower for the Top
Make a small decorative flower using green yarn.
- Make a magic ring.
- Work 6 single crochet stitches into the ring and join with a slip stitch.
- For each petal, work: slip stitch, chain 3, 2 double crochet stitches, chain 3, slip stitch into the next stitch.
- Repeat around to create 6 petals.
- Sew gold beads into the center and attach the flower beneath the hanging loop.
3. Crochet the Layered Christmas Tree
The tree is made from several openwork triangular or scalloped tiers, arranged from smallest at the top to largest at the bottom.
Make approximately 5–6 tiers in green yarn.
For each tier:
- Chain 4 and join into a ring.
- Chain 3, then work double crochet stitches into the ring to create the first cluster.
- Work repeated groups of 3 double crochet stitches, separated by chain spaces, to create an open lace pattern.
- On the next round, work shell stitches into the chain spaces: 5 double crochet stitches in one space, followed by a slip stitch in the next space.
- Continue increasing the number of shells and chain spaces on successive rounds until the tier reaches the desired width.
- Finish the lower edge with scallops or picot stitches for a decorative, leafy appearance.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Make each successive tier wider than the previous one. The exact stitch counts can be adjusted to achieve the proportions shown in the picture.
4. Assemble the Tree
- Place the smallest tier at the top and arrange the remaining tiers underneath it in descending order of size.
- Sew the tiers together at the center, keeping the edges loose enough to create a layered, bell-shaped silhouette.
- Attach the flower to the top front of the tree.
- Sew two small crocheted green balls onto the front, using short chains or crocheted cords to create hanging decorative details.
- Attach a gold jingle bell to the bottom center.
- Secure the hanging loop firmly at the top.
5. Finishing Touches
- Shape the scalloped edges with your fingers.
- Add gold beads to the flower center.
- Adjust the tiers so the lace openings remain visible.
- If needed, lightly stiffen the finished ornament and let it dry completely.
Important: This is an inspired pattern rather than an exact reconstruction. The photograph does not provide enough detail to determine the precise stitches or construction method. For the closest visual result, use a layered lace design with scalloped edges and progressively wider tiers.
