Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring, ch = chain, sc = single crochet, inc = increase, dec = decrease, sl st = slip stitch, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet.
1. Santa Head
With skin-tone yarn:
R1: 6 sc in MR
R2: inc around = 12
R3: (sc, inc) ×6 = 18
R4: (2 sc, inc) ×6 = 24
R5: (3 sc, inc) ×6 = 30
R6–10: sc around
Insert safety eyes and lightly stuff.
R11: (3 sc, dec) ×6
R12: (2 sc, dec) ×6
Continue decreasing and close.
Embroider the nose. Crochet several small white loops or chains and sew them around the lower face to create the full beard and mustache.
2. Santa Hat
With red yarn:
Start with 6 sc in MR.
Work in continuous rounds, adding approximately 2 increases every round until the hat fits the head.
Work 2–3 rounds straight.
Change to white and crochet 2 rounds of sc for the brim. Make a small white pom-pom and attach it to the tip.
Add two small green holly leaves and three red berries.
3. Santa Coat
With red yarn, crochet a small amigurumi body using increases until you reach approximately 30–36 sts. Work straight for 6–8 rounds.
Add:
- White edging around the bottom
- Black belt
- Small gold buckle
- Two red arms with skin-tone hands
- Tiny green Christmas-tree appliqué with gold bead decorations
Sew the head securely to the body.
4. Crochet Spiral
Make three long strips: icy blue, white and silver.
For each strip:
Ch 70–90, depending on desired length.
Starting in the second chain from hook:
Row 1: 2–3 dc in every chain across.
The large number of stitches automatically makes the strip curl into a spiral.
For a thicker spiral, crochet:
Row 2: 1 sc or hdc in each stitch around the outer edge.
Make one strip in icy blue, one in white, and one in silver gray.
Arrange the three spirals around each other to form the large twisted Christmas helix. Sew them together at several hidden points so the shape stays secure.
Decorate with small white crochet snowflakes, pearl beads and silver beads.
5. Bottom Ball
With icy blue yarn:
R1: 6 sc in MR
R2: inc around = 12
R3: (sc, inc) ×6 = 18
R4: (2 sc, inc) ×6 = 24
R5–8: sc around
R9: (2 sc, dec) ×6
Stuff firmly.
R10: (sc, dec) ×6
Decrease until closed.
Crochet a small white snowflake and sew it onto the front. Add a pearl bead in the center.
Assembly
Attach the spiral securely beneath Santa. Add a wooden bead underneath the spiral, then attach the blue crochet ball. Add a strong yarn loop to Santa’s hat for hanging.
Finish by shaping the spiral evenly and securing all beads and decorations firmly.
