Crochet Santa Towel Border Pattern

Photo-inspired pattern — stitch counts may need small adjustments depending on your towel width and yarn size.

Materials

  • Cotton yarn: red, white, green, skin/peach, black
  • 3.0–3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Small black beads or black yarn for eyes
  • White fabric towel

Abbreviations:
CH = chain · SC = single crochet · HDC = half double crochet · DC = double crochet · SL ST = slip stitch · INC = 2 stitches in same stitch

1. Red Foundation Along the Towel

Make evenly spaced holes along the lower edge of the towel.

Row 1: Attach red yarn. Work 1 SC in each hole, placing CH 1 between stitches if necessary.
Row 2: Work SC across to create a neat red attachment line.

2. Green Decorative Base

Attach green yarn below the red foundation.

Row 1: CH 3, 2 DC in same stitch, skip 1 stitch, 3 DC in next stitch. Repeat across.

Row 2: Work clusters of 3 DC into each gap from the previous row.

Finish with a textured/scalloped green edge.

3. Santa Face Motif

Start with skin/peach yarn.

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC.
Round 2: INC around = 12 SC.
Round 3: (SC, INC) around = 18 SC.
Round 4: (2 SC, INC) around = 24 SC.

Fasten off.

White beard: Join white yarn around the lower half of the face. Work small scallops:

SL ST, 4 DC in next stitch, SL ST in next stitch

Repeat around the lower edge to form the fluffy beard.

Hat: Join red yarn across the top of the head. Crochet several rows of SC, decreasing gradually toward one side to form the Santa hat. Add a white SC/HDC band across the bottom and make a small white pom-pom circle at the tip.

Add:

  • 2 black eyes
  • 1 red bobble or small crochet circle for the nose

4. Red Scallop Behind Santa

With red yarn, crochet a semicircular backing slightly larger than Santa.

Around the curved edge work:

5 DC in one stitch, SL ST in next stitch

Repeat to create the red scalloped frame.

Sew Santa onto the center.

5. Green Christmas Medallion

With green yarn:

R1: Magic ring, 8 SC.
R2: INC around = 16.
R3: (SC, INC) around = 24.

Work a textured final round using small DC clusters.

Add a tiny white flower in the center:

Magic ring, *CH 2, 2 DC, CH 2, SL ST into ring* × 5.

6. Assembly

Alternate the motifs along the towel edge:

Santa → Green medallion → Santa → Green medallion

Sew them securely to the green base. Add a small red crochet bow between each Santa and green motif.

For the bow:
CH 25, fasten off, shape into a bow and wrap a short strand around the center.

Finish: weave in all ends and lightly block the crochet border so the Santas and scallops lie evenly.
