Materials:
Worsted or cotton yarn in green, cream/ivory, or burgundy; cream yarn for the edging and star; 3–3.5 mm crochet hook; small silver beads or bells; 1 larger bell for the bottom; yarn needle; scissors; stuffing optional.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, inc = increase.
1. Spiral Tree Body
Row 1: Ch 45–55, depending on the size you want.
Row 2: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 2 sc in each chain across. This naturally begins to curl.
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, work 2 hdc in each stitch across to create a fuller spiral.
Row 4: With cream yarn, work 1 sc in each stitch along the outer edge for the contrasting trim.
Allow the strip to twist naturally into a spiral. Shape it from narrow at the top to wider at the bottom to resemble a Christmas tree.
2. Star Topper
With cream yarn:
R1: MR, 10 sc, join.
For each of the 5 points:
sl st, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch, hdc in next, dc in next, sl st into next stitch.
Repeat 5 times. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
3. Decorations
Sew small silver beads or tiny bells evenly around the spiral. Keep them spaced between each curved section for a balanced Christmas look.
4. Bottom Bell
Attach one larger silver bell to the bottom tip of the spiral using a short yarn loop.
5. Assembly
Shape the crochet strip into a neat Christmas-tree spiral. Secure a few hidden stitches between the layers if necessary so it keeps its form. Sew the star to the top and add a long hanging loop.
Finished design: a hanging spiral crochet Christmas tree with a cream-edged swirl, star topper, small metallic decorations, and a bell at the bottom.
