Crochet Spiral Christmas Tree Pattern

Materials

• Cream/off-white worsted yarn
• Red yarn
• Crochet hook suitable for your yarn, approximately 3–4 mm
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Small amount of stuffing or stiffening material
• Red star decorations
• Thin white cord/thread for hanging decorations

1. Spiral Tree

Start with cream yarn.

1. Chain 4, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
2. Round 1: 8 single crochet (SC) into the ring.
3. Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch — 16 SC.
4. Round 3: 1 SC, 2 SC in next stitch — repeat around.
5. Continue working SC while gradually increasing every few stitches so the piece remains flat.
6. Once the base is approximately 8–10 cm wide, stop increasing.
7. Continue in SC rows/rounds, gradually increasing at regular intervals to create a long, tapered spiral shape.
8. After reaching the desired length, decrease gradually toward the top until only a small point remains.
9. Fasten off and weave in the end.

2. Red Decorative Border

Attach the red yarn around the outer edge of the spiral.

Work:

Slip stitch → SC → SC → slip stitch

Repeat around the entire edge to create the raised red outline seen in the photo.

3. Top Star

Using cream yarn:

1. Make a magic ring.
2. Crochet 10 SC into the ring.
3. Form 5 points around the center using combinations of SC, HDC, DC and chains.
4. Shape each point into a sharp triangle.
5. Fasten off.
6. Add a red SC/slip-stitch border around the star.

Attach the star firmly to the top of the tree.

4. Hanging Stars

Make 3–4 small five-point stars with red yarn.

Attach each star to a short cream or red thread and secure them along the center of the spiral at different heights.

5. Assembly

• Attach the spiral securely to a central hanging cord.
• Position the spiral so each section curves naturally around the center.
• Add the large star at the top.
• Add the small red stars along the spiral.
• Lightly block or stiffen the crochet if you want the spiral to hold its shape.

Finished Size

Approximately 35–50 cm tall, depending on your yarn, hook size, and number of spiral rounds.
