Christmas Flower / Star
Using cream or gold yarn, make a Magic Ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 and work 11 dc into the Magic Ring. Pull the ring tightly closed and join with a sl st.
Change to red yarn.
Round 2: Ch 5, skip 1 stitch and sl st into the next stitch. Repeat around until you have approximately 6 loops.
Round 3: In each ch-5 loop work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.
Repeat this sequence in every loop to create six pointed petals.
Change to cream yarn.
Work a smaller decorative section inside each petal using:
1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 dc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.
Change to dark green yarn and crochet 1 sc around the outer edge.
At the tip of every petal work:
1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc
This gives the flower a sharper Christmas-star appearance.
Gold Decorative Border
Using metallic gold yarn, work small slip stitches around the outside of the flower.
Keep the gold border thin so the red, green and cream colors remain visible.
You can also sew metallic gold thread around each petal with a yarn needle.
Center Decoration
Place a large pearl, gold bead or decorative button in the center of the flower.
Sew it securely through several crochet stitches.
Add small gold or pearl beads around the center if you want a more luxurious result.
Decorative Hanging Beads
Attach small bead drops to the lower petals.
For each bead drop, use a combination such as:
Pearl bead, small red or green bead, clear crystal bead.
Secure each decoration strongly with sewing thread.
Make approximately 3–5 hanging bead decorations.
Long Crochet Spiral
Using cream yarn, chain approximately 75–100 chains.
For a shorter ornament use about 70 chains.
For a longer ornament use 100–120 chains.
Keep the foundation chain slightly loose.
Spiral Row 1
Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 2 sc into every chain.
The strip will begin curling naturally.
Do not straighten it.
Spiral Row 2
Change to red yarn.
Work 2 dc into every stitch.
This large increase creates the strong spiral effect.
If the spiral becomes too tight, work:
2 dc in one stitch, 1 dc in the next stitch
Repeat across.
Spiral Row 3
Change to dark green yarn.
Work 1 sc in every stitch along the outside edge.
You can occasionally work:
ch 1, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch
These small spaces can later hold beads.
Spiral Row 4
Using metallic gold yarn, crochet a line of slip stitches along one edge of the spiral.
This gives the spiral a festive Christmas finish.
Shaping the Spiral
Hold the top of the crocheted strip.
Gently twist the lower section in the direction of the natural curl.
Allow the strip to form a regular corkscrew shape.
Aim for approximately 5–7 visible spiral turns.
Do not stretch the spiral.
The turns should remain full and three-dimensional.
Adding Beads to the Spiral
Using strong sewing thread, attach pearl and crystal beads along both sides of the spiral.
Space the beads approximately 5–7 cm apart.
A nice Christmas combination is:
Pearl, red crystal, clear crystal, green crystal and gold bead.
You can allow a few crystal beads to hang freely from short threads.
Avoid using too many heavy beads because they may stretch the crochet.
Decorative Bottom Ball
Using red yarn, make a Magic Ring.
Round 1: 6 sc into MR.
Round 2: 2 sc in every stitch. You should have 12 stitches.
Round 3: 1 sc, inc. Repeat around. You should have 18 stitches.
Rounds 4–5: 1 sc in every stitch.
Round 6: 1 sc, dec. Repeat around.
Add a small amount of fiberfill.
Round 7: Continue decreasing until the opening closes.
Fasten off securely.
Wrap metallic gold thread vertically around the ball several times to create decorative Christmas sections.
Add a pearl bead above and below the ball.
Tassel
Cut approximately 30–50 strands of yarn.
Use a mixture of red, green, cream and metallic gold.
Each strand should be approximately 25–30 cm / 10–12 inches long.
Place all strands together.
Fold them in half.
Tie the folded center securely.
Attach this section to the bottom of the decorative ball.
Approximately 2–3 cm below the top of the tassel, wrap metallic gold yarn around all strands 10–15 times.
Tie securely.
Trim the lower ends until they are even.
Adding Bells
Attach 2–5 small gold bells around the top of the tassel.
You can combine the bells with pearls and red or green beads.
For example:
Gold bell, pearl bead, red bead.
Distribute the bells evenly so the ornament remains balanced.
Final Assembly
The complete ornament should be assembled in this order:
Hanging Loop → Christmas Flower → Decorative Beads → Crochet Spiral → Decorative Ball → Tassel
Using a strong yarn needle, sew the upper part of the spiral securely to the lower center of the flower.
Make several strong stitches.
Knot securely and hide the yarn ends.
Attach the decorative crochet ball to the bottom of the spiral.
Then attach the tassel underneath the ball.
Hanging Loop
Using cream, green or metallic gold yarn, chain approximately 20–30 chains.
Join the chain to form a loop.
Sew the loop securely to the back of the flower.
Make sure it is positioned exactly in the center so the decoration hangs straight.
Finishing
Hide all loose yarn ends.
Check every bead and bell to make sure it is securely attached.
Straighten the tassel.
Adjust the spiral until the turns are evenly spaced.
Lightly shape the flower with your fingers.
You can gently steam-block the flower if necessary.
Do not flatten the spiral because its three-dimensional curl is the main feature of the decoration.
Christmas Color Ideas
Classic Christmas: Deep red, forest green, cream and metallic gold.
Snowy Christmas: Ice blue, white, silver and pearl.
Luxury Christmas: Burgundy, emerald green, champagne gold and ivory.
Candy Christmas: Red, white, pink and gold.
Final Result
The finished piece is a long decorative Christmas hanging ornament with a detailed flower or star at the top, a dramatic three-dimensional crochet spiral in the center, sparkling beads along the sides and a rich multicolor tassel decorated with bells at the bottom.
