  • Royal-blue DK cotton yarn: approximately 400–600 g
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • Measuring tape

Skill level: Intermediate

Finished size: Approximately 220 × 240 cm, depending on gauge and border width.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – Chain
  • sc – Single crochet
  • dc – Double crochet
  • sl st – Slip stitch
  • sp – Space
  • st – Stitch
  • rep – Repeat

Step 1: Crochet the Cream Lace Squares

Round 1: Foundation

Make a magic ring using cream yarn.

Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc into the ring, ch 2.

Repeat (3 dc, ch 2) three more times.

Join with sl st.

Round 2: Form the Corners

Sl st into the first corner space.

Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into each corner.

Ch 1 between corner groups.

Join with sl st.

Round 3: Begin the Lace Pattern

Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into each corner.

Between corners, create open spaces using ch 3 and sc into the previous chain spaces.

Repeat around.

Rounds 4–9: Expand the Lace

Continue increasing the square.

At every corner, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc).

Along each side, alternate chain spaces and single crochet stitches to create an airy mesh.

Keep all four sides symmetrical.

Round 10: Finish the Square

Work sc evenly around the entire motif.

At each corner, work (sc, ch 2, sc).

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Block the motif to approximately 20 × 20 cm.

Step 2: Add the Royal-Blue Border

Attach blue yarn at any corner.

Round 1: Work sc evenly around the square, placing 3 sc in each corner.

Round 2: Work decorative picots by repeating:

Sc in next 3 stitches, ch 3, sl st into the first chain.

Repeat around the square.

Fasten off.

Step 3: Create the Blue Diamond Design

Using royal-blue yarn, create decorative diagonal lines across each cream square.

  • Attach yarn at one corner.
  • Work a chain long enough to reach the opposite corner through the center.
  • Secure the chain at the opposite corner.
  • Repeat between the remaining two corners.
  • Crochet a small blue circle and sew it over the center intersection.

For the center circle:

  • Make a magic ring.
  • Work 8 sc into the ring.
  • Join with sl st.
  • Fasten off, leaving a sewing tail.

Secure the circle at the center of the square.

Step 4: Join the Squares

Arrange the completed motifs into rows.

For an approximately 220 × 240 cm bedspread, start with 11 squares across and 12 squares down, assuming each finished motif measures 20 cm.

This requires approximately 132 crochet squares before adding the outer border.

Join the motifs using blue yarn and slip stitches through the back loops.

Keep the joining tension even so the finished bedspread lies flat.

Step 5: Crochet the Scalloped Border

Round 1: Attach cream yarn and work sc evenly around the entire bedspread.

Round 2: Work dc stitches with chain spaces to create an openwork foundation.

Round 3: Work 5 dc into the next designated chain space, skip the following stitches, then sc into the next anchoring point.

Repeat to form scallops.

Round 4: Attach royal-blue yarn.

Work sc along each scallop, placing 3 sc at the top of each curve where needed.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Step 6: Make the Matching Pillow Covers

Create two matching pillow covers using the same cream and blue lace motifs.

For each pillow:

  • Crochet four lace squares.
  • Join them into a 2 × 2 arrangement.
  • Add blue diagonal accents and center circles.
  • Crochet a decorative blue scalloped border.
  • Prepare a matching fabric backing.
  • Sew the crochet panel to the backing, leaving an opening for the pillow insert.

Adjust the number and dimensions of motifs to match your pillow size.

Step 7: Finishing

Gently hand-wash the completed bedspread in cool water using a mild detergent.

Press out excess water without twisting.

Lay flat on clean towels and shape the lace squares.

Allow the bedspread to dry completely.

Arrange it neatly over the bed and place the matching pillows against the headboard.

Finished Result

The finished project features a delicate cream lace bedspread decorated with royal-blue geometric diamonds, small circular accents, and an elegant scalloped border.

The matching pillow covers complete the coordinated bedroom set.

Important: Make and measure one complete sample motif before purchasing all the yarn or starting the full bedspread. The estimated yarn quantities and final dimensions will vary with yarn thickness, tension, and the exact lace pattern.
