1. Tree Body
Work from the top downward.
Round 1: MR, 6 SC.
Round 2: 6 INC = 12 SC.
Round 3: (SC, INC) around = 18 SC.
Round 4: (2 SC, INC) around = 24 SC.
Round 5: (3 SC, INC) around = 30 SC.
Continue increasing evenly until the desired tree width is reached.
Work several rounds of SC without increasing to create the height. Shape the tree gradually wider toward the bottom.
Stuff lightly with fiberfill as you work.
Finish with decreasing rounds until the opening closes. Fasten off and weave in the end.
2. Layered Green Tree Skirt
For each tier, attach green yarn around the appropriate round of the tree.
Work:
Round 1: SC around.
Round 2: (SC, INC) around.
Round 3: DC around for a fuller ruffle.
For the decorative edge, switch to cream yarn and work:
(SC, CH 2, SC) around to create a scalloped lace border.
Repeat the tiered skirt at different heights to create the three-dimensional Christmas-tree appearance shown in the image.
3. Red Ruffled Layers
Attach red yarn beneath each green tier.
Work several rounds of HDC or DC, increasing regularly so the fabric naturally flares outward.
Finish each red section with a small scalloped edge.
Alternate:
Green → Cream border → Red ruffle → Green → Cream border
to reproduce the layered Christmas-tree effect.
4. Cow Head
Using brown/tan yarn:
Round 1: MR, 6 SC.
Round 2: 6 INC = 12.
Round 3: (SC, INC) around = 18.
Round 4: (2 SC, INC) around = 24.
Rounds 5–9: SC around.
Begin decreasing:
Round 10: (2 SC, DEC) around.
Round 11: (SC, DEC) around.
Stuff firmly.
Continue decreasing until the head is closed. Fasten off.
5. Cow Muzzle
Using cream yarn, crochet a small oval:
Round 1: CH 6.
SC around both sides of the chain.
Continue with 2–3 rounds of SC, adding increases at both ends to maintain an oval shape.
Sew the muzzle to the front of the head.
Use black yarn to embroider the two nostrils and a small curved mouth.
6. Eyes
Sew two small black safety eyes or embroidered black eyes onto the face.
Add tiny white highlights for the glossy appearance.
7. Cow Ears and Horns
Ears
Using cream yarn, crochet two small pointed or curved ear pieces with SC.
Fold slightly and sew them to both sides of the head.
Horns
Using cream/beige yarn, crochet two small cone shapes:
MR → 6 SC → work several rounds of SC while gradually decreasing.
Sew one horn above each ear.
8. Hair
Using brown yarn, cut several strands and attach them around the top of the head.
Separate and twist the strands to create the textured, curly-looking cow hair.
Trim evenly.
9. Arms
Make two small arms using the same brown yarn.
Work approximately 8–12 rounds of SC, lightly stuff, then close.
Sew the arms to the upper section of the tree.
Add red-and-green striped cuffs using alternating yarn colors.
10. Christmas Collar
Using green yarn, crochet a circular collar around the neck area.
Work:
SC → INC → DC
with regular increases to create a flared collar.
Add a cream scalloped border around the outside.
Attach a small decorative bow and a gold bell at the center.
11. Christmas Bow
Use red and plaid ribbon.
Create two large loops and secure them at the center with a small pearl or decorative bead.
Attach the bow above the cow’s head.
12. Christmas Tree Top
Crochet a small green cone using increasing rounds of SC.
Attach it to the top of the head/tree area.
Decorate with a small gold star.
13. Decorations
Sew small pearl beads around the green tree layers.
Add small red and green decorative balls between the ruffles.
Make sure all decorations are securely attached.
Finishing
Carefully sew all components together and hide every yarn end inside the piece.
Shape the tree tiers with your fingers so each layer spreads outward naturally.
