Halloween Crochet Table Mat

This original pattern is inspired by the pictured mat. It creates orange and dark brown rings, openwork, textured stitches, and a scalloped border; it is not an exact reconstruction of the design in the image.

Materials

  • Cotton yarn in bright orange and dark brown: approximately 250–350 m total
  • 4 mm crochet hook, or a size suitable for your yarn
  • Yarn needle and scissors
  • Stitch marker

Finished size depends on your yarn, tension, and blocking.

US crochet terms

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 dc in the same stitch
  • BPdc: back post double crochet
  • ch-sp: chain space

For a BPdc, insert the hook from back to front to back around the post of the indicated stitch, then complete a double crochet.

Finishing

Weave in all ends securely. Wet-block the mat on a flat surface, gently shaping it into a circle and spreading the scallops evenly. Let it dry completely before placing it on your table.

For the final display, use an orange pumpkin bowl in the center and LED candles nearby. To show the crochet clearly in your video, reveal the mat on its own first.
