1. Pumpkin Head
Work in orange.
Round 1: 6 SC into MR.
Round 2: INC around – 12 SC.

Round 6: (4 SC, INC) around – 36 SC.
Rounds 7–14: SC around – 36 SC.

Stuff firmly with fiberfill.

Pumpkin Face
Embroider two triangular black eyes, a small triangular nose, and a curved smiling mouth.
Use black yarn to create the classic jack-o’-lantern expression.
Add a few orange stitches around the face if you want the pumpkin texture to remain visible.
2. Pumpkin Stem and Leaf
With green yarn, attach yarn to the top of the pumpkin.
CH 5.
SC back across the chain.
SL ST into the pumpkin.
For the leaf, CH 5 and work SC, HDC, DC, HDC, SC along the chain. SL ST back to the pumpkin.
3. Witch Hat
Work in black.
Round 1: 6 SC into MR.
Round 2: INC around – 12 SC.
Round 3: SC around – 12 SC.
Round 4: (SC, INC) around – 18 SC.
Round 5: SC around – 18 SC.
Round 6: (2 SC, INC) around – 24 SC.
Round 7: SC around – 24 SC.
Round 8: (3 SC, INC) around – 30 SC.
Rounds 9–15: SC around – 30 SC.
Continue working without increasing to create the tall pointed shape. Gradually decrease toward the top:
(3 SC, DEC) around.
SC around.
(2 SC, DEC) around.
SC around.
DEC around until the opening closes.
Stuff very lightly.
Hat Brim
Attach black yarn around the bottom of the hat.
Work 2–3 rounds of SC, increasing evenly until the brim is approximately 1–1.5 cm wider than the pumpkin head.
Add a purple band around the hat using SC in purple.
Make a small orange/yellow buckle or flower and sew it onto the purple band.
Sew the hat securely to the pumpkin.
4. Purple-and-Black Scarf
Using purple and black yarn, work in rows.
CH approximately 9–11.
Row 1: SC across.
Rows 2–20: SC across, changing between purple and black every 2 rows.
Continue until the scarf is long enough to wrap around the pumpkin.
Sew the scarf around the neck area.
Scarf Fringe
Cut several lengths of purple and black yarn.
Fold each strand in half and pull the folded loop through the scarf edge. Pull the loose ends through the loop.
Trim the fringe evenly.
5. Long Spiral Body
For the characteristic corkscrew shape, use black and purple yarn.
CH 40–50.
Work 3 SC into every chain stitch across the entire chain.
The increased stitches naturally make the strip curl into a spiral.
For a longer spiral, begin with 60–80 chains.
For a thicker spiral, make a second spiral and attach it alongside the first.
Continue with alternating sections of black and purple to reproduce the striped appearance in the photo.
The spiral technique is commonly used for Halloween hanging decorations because the increased crochet stitches naturally create the corkscrew effect.
6. Spiral Support
If you want the spiral to hold a very precise shape, insert a thin craft wire through the center of the crocheted spiral.
Do not leave sharp wire ends exposed.
Shape the spiral gradually into a loose corkscrew.
7. Small Ghost
Work in white.
Round 1: 6 SC into MR.
Round 2: INC around – 12 SC.
Round 3: (SC, INC) around – 18 SC.
Rounds 4–8: SC around – 18 SC.
Begin decreasing:
Round 9: (SC, DEC) around.
Round 10: DEC around.
Stuff lightly and close.
Create two black eyes and a small smiling mouth.
For the bottom, crochet a few small scallops around the edge to create the ghostly shape.
Attach a white hanging loop at the top.
8. Mini Pumpkin
Work in orange.
Round 1: 6 SC into MR.
Round 2: INC around – 12 SC.
Round 3: (SC, INC) around – 18 SC.
Rounds 4–6: SC around.
Round 7: (SC, DEC) around.
Round 8: DEC around.
Stuff and close.
Embroider a tiny black jack-o’-lantern face.
Add a green stem and leaf.
9. Mini Bats
Work in black.
Create a small oval body using SC.
Add two pointed ears using small triangular crochet pieces.
For each wing, work a small chain section and crochet several SC/HDC stitches into it to form a pointed scalloped wing.
Make two wings for each bat.
Sew the wings to the body.
Add tiny white eyes and a pink nose.
Make two or three bats in different sizes.
10. Black Cat
Work the body as a small stuffed oval.
Make a round head separately using SC.
Add two triangular ears in black with small purple inner-ear details.
Sew the head to the body.
Add large yellow eyes, a tiny pink nose, and black whiskers.
For the legs, make four narrow chains or small crocheted tubes and attach them to the body.
Make a long curled tail and sew it to the back.
11. Black Decorative Sections
Make two elongated black crochet tubes or rectangular pieces.
Work approximately 8–12 SC per row until the desired length is reached.
Add small yellow embroidered starbursts to the center.
Attach these sections around the spiral at the positions shown in the photo.
12. Beaded Center Chain
Cut a strong piece of yarn or crochet a thin chain.
Attach decorative beads in alternating colors:
Black
Purple
Orange
Black
Purple
Secure each bead tightly.
Leave enough space between the beads so they hang naturally.
13. Assembly
Attach the metal ring securely to the top of the witch hat.
Connect the pumpkin head to the top of the spiral.
Attach the scarf around the neck.
Attach the long spiral underneath the pumpkin.
Sew the ghost, bats, mini pumpkin and black cat to separate hanging cords.
Attach the cords at different heights so the ornaments do not overlap.
Place the larger black-and-purple spiral sections in the center and allow the smaller Halloween characters to hang freely underneath.
14. Final Finishing
Check every sewn connection carefully.
Hide all yarn ends inside the crochet pieces.
Shape the pumpkin, hat and spiral by hand.
Adjust the spiral so it hangs evenly.
For a similar overall effect, the finished decoration can be approximately 45–60 cm long, depending on yarn weight and the number of spiral rounds. Similar Halloween crochet spiral projects use a combination of amigurumi elements, spiral sections, beads and hanging cords.
