Foundation
Chain any odd number. For a sample, ch 25.
Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook and each chain across. Turn. 24 sc.
Row 2 — diagonal puff row: Ch 3, counting as the first dc. Skip the first stitch beneath the chain. Skip the next stitch, dc in the following stitch, then work a puff into the skipped stitch, reaching back in front of the dc. Repeat until 1 stitch remains. Dc in the last stitch. Turn.
For the sample: 11 crossed dc-and-puff pairs, plus 2 edge dc.
Row 3 — second texture row: Repeat Row 2, treating the top of each puff and each dc as separate stitches. Work the last dc into the top of the previous row’s starting ch 3. Turn.
Row 4 — dividing ridge: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across, including the top of the starting ch 3. Turn. 24 sc.
Repeat Rows 2–4 until you reach the desired length. Finish after Row 4.
Optional border
Ch 1 and sc evenly around the swatch, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with a slip stitch, fasten off, and weave in the ends.
Tip: Keep the puff loops loose and equal in height. Make a small sample first to check the texture and drape before starting a blanket.
