Pumpkin Spice Mug Cozy

Materials Needed

• Yarn: Medium / Worsted weight yarn in bright orange and a small scrap of green yarn for the leaf detail.
• Crochet Hook: 3.5 mm or 4.0 mm (US E-4 or G-6).
• Button: 1 small orange or brown button.
• Tapestry Needle & Scissors.

Pattern Instructions

1. Main Body (Ribbed Pumpkin Base)

The cozy is worked flat as a ribbed rectangle and then shaped to fit around the mug while leaving an opening for the handle.

1. Starting Chain: Chain 18–22 (or enough chains to cover the height of your mug from the base to just below the rim).
2. Row 1: 1 sc in the 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across. Turn.
3. Row 2 to End:ch 1, 1 sc in BLO across the entire row. Turn.
   • Repeat Row 2 until the piece is long enough to wrap around your mug (approximately 24–30 rows depending on mug size).

2. Assembly & Shaping

1. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
2. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and weave it through the bottom edge stitches. Pull tight to gather the bottom of the pumpkin sleeve, then secure with a knot.
3. Seam the two side edges together for about 2–3 cm at the bottom to secure the base below the handle.
4. Leave an opening for the mug handle, then sew the top 1–2 cm together above the handle.

3. Button, Loop & Leaf Accent

1. Button Loop: Attach the orange yarn to the top edge near the handle opening, ch 6–8 (or enough to loop over your button), and secure with a sl st.
2. Button: Sew the button onto the opposite side of the opening to fasten the cozy around the handle.
3. Leaf Accent:
   • With green yarn, ch 4.
   • sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc (half double crochet) in last ch.
   • Fasten off and sew the tiny leaf directly above the button detail.
