Golden crust, cloud-soft inside
Ingredients
- 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (not hot)
- 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 4 tbsp butter (softened)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
For brushing
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp milk or cream
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir lightly and let it rest for 5–10 minutes until foamy. This means the yeast is active.
- Add the egg, softened butter, vegetable oil, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and slightly sticky but not wet.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and let it rise for another 30–40 minutes until puffy and just above the pan.
- Brush the top gently with egg yolk mixed with milk. Use a sharp knife to make 2–3 shallow cuts on top if desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and brush immediately with melted butter for extra shine and softness.
- Let it cool slightly, then slice and enjoy
