Soft & Fluffy Homemade Bread Loaf

Golden crust, cloud-soft inside

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (not hot)
  • 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

For brushing

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk or cream

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir lightly and let it rest for 5–10 minutes until foamy. This means the yeast is active.
  2. Add the egg, softened butter, vegetable oil, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and slightly sticky but not wet.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough gently to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover again and let it rise for another 30–40 minutes until puffy and just above the pan.
  8. Brush the top gently with egg yolk mixed with milk. Use a sharp knife to make 2–3 shallow cuts on top if desired.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and brush immediately with melted butter for extra shine and softness.
  11. Let it cool slightly, then slice and enjoy
